How an unloader brace works
A knee cap or sleeve compresses the whole knee. An unloader brace works differently: it presses at three points to take load off one side of the knee.
- Thigh shell presses on the thigh.
- Calf shell presses on the calf, on the same side.
- The pad at the hinge presses on the opposite side of the knee.
Together they gently guide the knee so that less of your weight passes through one side of the joint. You choose which side, inner or outer, when the brace is set up.
